The booklet does not say “mask” (but he sings “mask” in English), it says “取り繕った顔を剥がしていくよ” (toritsukutta kao wo hagashite iru yo), which would be something like “I'm going to take out the face I use to keep up appearances”, where “appearances” is my addition to complement 取り繕った (toritsukutta), which means “1. to keep up (appearances); 2. to smooth over (an error, etc.); to gloss over; to varnish over; to palliate; to temporize; to temporise; 3. to mend; to repair; to patch up” (jisho.org).
