Translator
notes:
The
parts in italics in the romaji are sung different from the
lyrics.
The
parts in italic in the translation are adaptations.
1.
I found the lyrics written as “hands” but he sings “eyes”,
the translation of what he sings would have to be adapted to “I was
afraid of dying if I lost sight of you”, where 離す
(hanasu)
means “to divide; to separate; to release".
2.
he sings sakamichi that would be “hill road”.
3.
The translation for what he sings would be "If you close your
eyes, you will definitely wanna die".
Thoughts
and ramblings:
Okay,
I confess I spent more time thinking about the lyrics of this song
than I should. I received this song as a request, I had never given
this band a chance, even that I I've already heard something from
them. When I heard it I thought it was really cool and I was excited
to translate. But then…
I walk with a 14yo girl under the honeymoon
WTF?!!
I
just kept translating and thinking “well maybe that is clear in
context” but when I finished translating I was sure the song was
talking about something like kidnapping, or... idk, abuse of minors
(???)
Upset
that I liked the song so much and found the lyrics kinda bizarre I
searched for the rest of the album content and took a look at the
lyrics of the other songs, and that's when things started to make
sense (just a bit).
>>
Let's go!
This
is the first track on a CD whose title can be translated as
“Darkness, the funeral procession and the heavy rain” (more
specifically “the rain that tears you to pieces”). [闇と葬列と切り裂き雨]
Considering
the title of the CD along with the translation, we can imagine a some
kind of metaphysical or death experience or something like that. If
we are going to have this reading, the thing that bothered me the
most “walking with a 14yo girl under the honeymoon” may have to
do with 1) he died and his (spiritual) guide (in some kind of limbo = "keep you in my darkness") was
this 14 year old girl; 2) the two were together (father and daughter,
or two teenagers) and died.
How
to know the answer to these questions?
Well,
I already obsessed as in the image above translated the track 2 of
this CD [it's called Mellow Yellow] and I'll leave a key-excerpt here
for you to understand what I'll talk about:
Hospitalized with milk clothes, you vomit pure blood
my Robert Smith t-shirt is stained red
Floating, we sway
(...)
We can lose everything!
(…)
How will it happen? Will you laugh?
"It's useless ..." will you laugh?
"How
will it happen?" - what will happen?
Well,
if the person was VOMITING BLOOD, it is probably death, right?
From
here we can go back to the lyrics from the song of this post:
I want to keep you locked up in my darkness
because this is an ugly world
Of you are here, nothing will stop us
"to
keep you in my darkness" that before I thought was a dark place
where she was kept against her will, is now a metaphysical place, a
mourning place where they can be together (because one of them is
dead, or dying, and the other one don't want this person gone)
Fine...
Even
after this there's something that still bothering me A LOT
I walk with a 14yo girl under the honeymoon
There's
no way to this don't sound wrong!! honeymoon has a sexual-affective meaning, it's impossible for me to understand this differently...
unless... the song title... Honeymoon don't cry... honey...
MAYBE
when he says 蜜月
(mitsugetsu
= honeymoon), he's using as a way to refer to a specific person (you
can also read 蜜月
as
Mitsuki, and this is a name). The same way he says in the chorus when
say "honey", is different use but can be about a specific person, right?
(????)
This
thinking could result in a translation like "I walk with a 14yo
girl, [her name/ the way he calls her]"
Well,
I only could speculate more if I had the other lyrics from this album
to translate then analyze, but I found all the song LESS the track 3,
“恋の闇
(koi
no yami)”, so I did not considerate to do this.
Has
anyone read this far? Well, if you have read, interact down bellow,
tell me what you think!!! I'm not sure about the interpretation I put
here, but I thought it would be very irresponsible to post this
translation without even trying…
